President Obama’s Diplomatic Travels

The President’s trips to Russia, and to the G-8 meeting in Italy, have been a reminder to me of the “Good Old Days” of American Diplomacy. I’m talking about the 50’s through the 90’s, when Our President traveling to foreign capitals was something the whole Nation watched and cared about.
Back in those days We All felt a sense of pride in having a man of character and honor meeting with, and gaining the respect of their fellow Leaders and Statesmen. Some of you younger people may only remember the thousands of “Cringe” moments, when Bush said. (or did ) something really stupid. And when he wasn’t saying or doing anything stupid, we all were nervous-wrecks, waiting for the next gaffe.
When Bush said he had looked in Putin’s eyes, and seen his soul, the whole world wondered why he didn’t run like hell for the nearest exit ! From the very start, the Bush Years were a farce. Remember the pictures aboard the carrier? with the “Mission Accomplished” banner behind him ?
But; I didn’t start this to rehash the failures and folly of That Administration. I’m just here to say how Proud and Glad I am to see pictures and video of President Obama having press conferences, and friendly conversations with the Leaders of other great nations, while doing such a good job of defending and reinforcing our Country’s reinvigorated Foreign Policy.
Of course, having Mrs Obama and those adorable Girls along too doesn’t hurt our image either, and adds a touch of humanity to the face that the US projects to the world. Not since JFK have we had such leadership and persona in our President. Yes, I still Love Former President Clinton, and the world loved him too, but Clinton was more of a policy wonk, or was so more publicly than Obama, and Chelsea was past the “Cute” phase of childhood, as compared with Sasha and Malia.
Yes, I know this is just the superficial aspect of these important talks, but in today’s world of media saturation world wide, it doesn’t hurt to look “Mahvalous” while doing serious bidness. You can bet that this President is fully briefed on every issue and personality involved, and that he will do everything possible to promote America’s best interests, while projecting his open and knowledgeable image.

A “Memorable” Memorial Day Weekend

This American Holiday weekend has been a different sort of time for both myself, and Our Nation. As our First Memorial Day with an Afro-American President, this weekend saw some 60 college Professors urging the President to break with the Tradition of the US President laying a wreath at the monument to the Confederate Soldiers. Because these professors have long viewed honoring these soldiers of the Confederate States as an insult to all Afro-Americans, they wanted the tradition ended. Another, much wiser Professor, suggested that the President send flowers to the Confederate site, while also sending one to the Monument to Black Union Soldiers of the Civil War.
That’s exactly what the President chose to do, and thus ended another “Tempest in a Teapot” controversy. This calm and deliberative Commander-in-Chief has deftly trod through the minefield that is Federal Politics, without arousing the ire of the many fringe groups and special interests that create that minefield, and keep it dangerous for the un-alert and unaware.
Meanwhile, back in the “Real” world, this weekend has seen Hezbollah rally their ’sheeple’ in Lebanon, just ahead of an election in that pitiful nation. The rally comes at a time when proof is forthcoming that Hezbollah was responsible for the assassination of the popular Lebanese Prime Minister back in 2007.
Across the Globe, the North Korean child-molester tyrant has tested another Atomic Bomb, once again violating every United Nations and Asian regional directive. How long the Chinese will let this little twerp continue to spit on the World’s Laws and sanctions remains to be seen. If America and Japan decide to end Kim Jung Il’s reign of terror and deprivation, then the Chinese will be whining about our intrusion into their regional affairs. I guess they don’t realize that this shrunken bastard is just as much a danger to them as he is to South Korea and Japan? I personally see this pissant’s continued survival, as an overt failure on the part of the CIA, and every other so-called “Intelligence Agencies” in the world. Surely there are some military and bureaucratic leaders that we could involve in a plan, (conspiracy if you will), to kill this pervert, and put sanity back in their leadership. Oh, I guess “sanity” would be a whole new concept for that nation, as their very existence was the result of rabid communist ideology.
Back in “Terror Central Command” AKA Iran, the fearless leader has told the world press that he is not the one who has blocked “FaceBook” access across the Nation. He said that there are hundreds of thousands of such websites across the world, and has said in the past that they should all be available to the people. That BS doesn’t fly with the young people and students, who know that FaceBook was only blocked after Ahmahjinadad’s main political opponent gained tens of thousands of followers on his Facebook page, as compared to a few hundred for AmA-JiveAssDad.
Now, to my personal weekend’s activities,..well, this is the first Memorial Day in memory where I have not at least attended a party, (or hosted one), to cook-out with friends and family and listen to the Indianapolis 500 on the radio. Even on those years when the race is broadcast on local TV stations, we will watch the muted TV accompanied by the radio’s announcers, because that is the tradition here in HoosierLand. My pick of the “Driver to Win” was the odds-on favorite, Helio Castroneves, and sure enough, he won handily. My lonely weekend continues.

I’ve been Saying it for over Two Years now, and I’ll say it again, ( if I must! ), Nancy Pelosi is the dumbest, most inept, and unassailably , Worst Speaker of the House, in ALL our country’s History !.
She began her tenure at the podium as a total “Rubber Stamp” for the Bush / Cheney conduct of the war, was leader of what the remorseful voters called “The Most Do-Nothing Congress” in US History, and has now gotten herself into a pissing contest with the CIA.
Now, I don’t know about You, but for my money, there’s no other group in the US Government that I would least like to have pissed-off at me ! If I were her, I would hire food-tasters, attack dogs, install Ollie North’s Home Security System, and spend a lot of time gettin’ right with The Lord !

By The Way, why isn’t Newt out there trying to put the party back together? I’m not a big fan of his, and hated him when he was Speaker, but he has made up with Hillary, and He and I have both grown wiser since then. I’ll take Ol Newt’s type of Republican over that Drug-addled GasBag Limbaugh any day!

5-14-09 :Last Night on Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show”, 97-year old Roberta McCain voiced her opinion about Rush Limbaugh, a view that is shared by millions of dis-spirited Republicans.
Saying the popular conservative radio host “does not represent the Republican Party that I belong to”.
“I belong to the Republican Party,” McCain, 97, said during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. “What he represents of the Republican Party has nothing to do with my side of it. I don’t know what the man means, I don’t know what he’s talking about.”
McCain also praised Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele for labeling Limbaugh an “entertainer” earlier this year during an interview on CNN.
“I think [Steele] was exactly right when he defined this man as an entertainer,” she said. “To my horror, the Republican Party made him back up on it.” From CNN.com
